Bike Sharing, NYC Fashions, Green Music Challenge and More – It's a wRAP – July 23, 2010

Want to be decked out in “NYC fashions” but pay only pennies to wear them? Only in your dreams..? Not necessarily so…Earlier this month, NYC decreed that much of what 7th Avenue has been throwing into landfills, including textiles, clothing and shoes, must now be “recycled.” In 2008 more than 190,000 tons of NYC textiles made there way to landfills. The city plans to install 50 collection bins in high traffic areas, including 7th Avenue and bids are out to see who gets to then distribute the “goods.” Check back for updates this fall when the contract is awarded and we find out who will be the lucky “distributor” of NYC fashion cast offs!

Looking for a quick, convenient and inexpensive way to get around London? Try bike sharing, coming to London July 30th. The bikes will be available at 400 stations all over London, and will cost from £1 to up to £50 for 24 hours. Bike sharing is already in full swing in Paris, Barcelona, Vienna, Denver, Montreal and Washington, DC. Also available for our friends in the UK are free reusable bags, made from recycled plastic bottles. Over 120,000 are being given away this summer by Super Savvy Me to promote environmental awareness in the UK.

Introduce the kids in your life to The Green Music Group (GMG), a coalition of musicians, industry leaders and music fans, working to bring wide spread environmental change through music. Tell your kids to check out The Green Music Group and the Bare Naked Ladies (one of our favorite Canadian Bands!) CHALLANGE. Every two weeks, the GMG and one of their Artists, challenge people every where to make an eco-friendly change in their life. This week the challenge is to spend “more time outdoors!” Just send in a photo of creative ways that you are enjoying time outdoors and you could win $1000!
