Many of us committed to “getting in shape” as part of our new year’s resolutions this year. For me, my new year’s resolution involved getting in shape personally, and working harder to help our country “SHAPE UP” and move forward on a clean, renewable energy future. On both fronts, February has been a great month for me. I have personally lost 10 pounds this year and feel great!! And on helping shape up our country, ClimateMama was one of the partner organizations for the big Forward on Climate Rally in Washington, DC on February 17th. In the NY/NJ/PA area ClimateMama is helping build community as we try to stop a local pipeline, the Tennessee Gas Pipeline..but more on that later.
Right now we want to share Charity Miles with you; an amazing app and exciting opportunity to raise money for some of your favorite United Nations Foundation charities just by getting your daily exercise!!
Do good for the world, and do good for you. Here’s how you can participate in the #Vday10K challenge. You only have until the end February to raise funds for the UN Foundation charities, so read this and take action today!
Download the free Charity Miles app for your IPhone or Android then select the United Nations Foundation campaign of your choice and whether you will be walking, running or biking. Charity Miles is a social good fitness app that partners with charities to raise money and help you do good while you run, walk or bike. It’s really easy.
Charity Miles will donate 25 cents for every mile you walk or run, and 10 cents for every mile you bike. At the end of your activity, you will be told how your donated miles will help the charity you’ve chosen. Social media is integrated into the app, so you can share the good that you’ve done with your friends on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #VDay10k.
The three campaigns are Girl UP, which helps teen girls in developing countries safely attend school, Nothing but Nets where you will help protect a family from malaria, and Shot@Life where your miles will help to provide life-saving vaccines to children around the world that need it most.
Here is a picture of me and some friends, just before our walk from Milford, PA to Montague, NJ to raise attention to pipelines projects in an area where they are neither needed nor wanted. Doing good for the local community and for my favorite UN Foundation Charity, Girl UP!
Learn more about these local projects and this ongoing protest here.
This post and information about Charity Miles is provided as part of ClimateMama’s involvement as a member of the Global Team of 200 and our ongoing support for programs of the United Nations Foundation.

Climate Mama
This is the motivation I need to log more miles this spring. What a great program!
