Taking a quick break from our Climate Superhero series, we wanted to introduce you to some new friends in New York City, their cool and “thoughtful” company Loomstate and a fun event they are holding on Saturday, July 13th for kids ages 7-11 near the Natural History Museum!
On second thought, Loomstate fits right in with our Climate SuperHeroes!
What: NYC Eco Kidz Environmental Science Class
When: Saturday July 13, 2:30 PM – 4:15 PM
Where: Near the National History Museum
Who: Kids age 7-11
RSVP: or to CustomerCare@Loomstate.org
Discover why clouds float in the air, how the color of the ground affects glacial retreat, why biodiversity creates healthy ecosystems, and how carbon affects the oceans and atmosphere. Taught by Loomstates’s Director of Sustainability, this free, 1 hour and 45 minute classes uses experiments in soda making, clouds in a bottle, and DIY construction paper hearts to understand some fun facts about climate and environmental science.
Now a little about Loomstate: launched in New York City in 2004 by designer Rogan Gregory and Scott Mackinlay Hahn, Loomstate creates a casual clothing brand dedicated to creating demand for certified organic cotton using socially and environmentally responsible methods of production.
According to it’s website, Loomstate directly manages all stages of manufacturing, from the fabric mills, to the cut & sew facilities to ensure all partners are participating in responsible manufacturing processes. Loomstate works with factories representing the “Gold Standard” or model of excellence of responsible production methods. All Loomstate factory partners are required to adhere to a code of conduct and Terms of Engagement in our company manufacturing agreement. These factories must use the highest environmental and labor standards, controlling factory pollution, and enforcing fair labor as the cornerstone of the effort. Loomstate is fully committed to organic farming and uses 100% certified organic cotton.
We love that Loomstate has such a great sustainable philosophy and seems to really follow through and “practice what they preach.” Loomstate also take it to another level with their NYC Urban field environmental classes, lead by their employees. What a unique idea and one we are happy to promote. We also love that Loomstate reached out to us to see if we were interested in attending and sharing information about their classes with our community.
Go Loomstate!
Happy Friday,
Yours,
Climate Mama
