How to change a light bulb..? It seems like a pretty simple question, but for many of us, it isn’t as straightforward or as simple as it used to be, so this can create confusion and wrong choices!

Our friends at Energy Star have some great tips on how to truly make changing a light bulb simple. It’s Do Something Wednesday, here at ClimateMama, so join us as us as we hear from the experts at Energy Star about how to make “changing your light bulb” easy..

The four easy to remember and follow Energy Star steps are as follows:

1. Look for the Energy Star label;
2. Decide how much “light” you need, this will be listed in lumens, not watts..the more lumens the more light;
3. Where will you be using the bulb? Check the package for more information;
4. Choose your “mood” lighting..warm to cool…

And finally, here are a few more light bulb facts from Energy Star:

· Bulbs and fixtures that have earned the ENERGY STAR produce about 70 percent less heat, so they’re safer to operate and can cut energy costs associated with home cooling.

· By replacing your home’s five most frequently used light fixtures or the bulbs in them with models that have earned the ENERGY STAR, you can save $80 each year.

· Ceiling fans with lights that have earned the ENERGY STAR are 60 percent more efficient than conventional fan/light units, saving you $175 in energy costs over the fan’s 10-year lifetime.

· A single light bulb that has earned the ENERGY STAR can save, on average, between $30 and $80 in electricity costs over its lifetime.

· A single light [bulb or fixture] that has earned the ENERGY STAR prevents, on average, between 460 and 1,100 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions over its lifetime.
