Stand Up for the Clean Air Act & the EPA – In the News

The Senate is voting on a small business bill. Okay, so what does that have to do with clean air and climate change? While, in a transparent and open government, nothing. But in today’s mixed up partisan US political arena, nothing is what it seems. Two amendments to this bill threaten the air we breath and the ability to regulate what companies put into it. One of the amendments seeks to take away power by the EPA to regulate carbon dioxide and heat trapping gases, a right given to the EPA by the Supreme Court in 2007, and then in 2009 by the federal government, based on extensive scientific review. The other amendment, seemingly less draconian, would delay EPA regulations for 2 years and stop the EPA from ruling on climate legislation. This amendment may in fact be more dangerous as it effectively takes science out of the equation on an issue which should be based on scientific findings. These amendments are taking scientific information and trashing them for political purposes. To learn more, check out the American Lung Association.
