Stationary Bikes and Carbon Free Energy: In the News

Traveling this summer? Check out this interesting promotional program run by the Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers, in Copenhagen, Denmark. The program helps reduce the hotel’s reliance on fossil fuels by creating “carbon free” electricity. It also helps you stay fit and enjoy a good meal at the same time!

shutterstock_7831615Turns out that that the gym at the Crowne Plaza has stationary bikes that are hooked up to generators, which in “turn” help provide electricity for the hotel. As a guest at the hotel when you exercise on these bikes, you can “generate energy ” and earn meal vouchers for your help! Each 15 minutes of pedaling generates about 10 watt hours of electricity for the hotel. For helping out, the hotel will give you a $36 meal voucher for use during your stay! Not a bad use of 15 minutes!

Crowne Plaza hopes to bring this program to more hotels in the fall. What a great way for gyms, offices and hotels to generate carbon free electricity!
