In 2007 I was trained by The Climate Project to present climate change facts at a grassroots level. Immediately I found myself in demand – I was invited to speak to students, teachers, business groups, PTAs, houses of worship…all types of organizations from around the country looking to learn more about climate change, why it was happening and what it meant to them. The Native American saying: “We don’t inherit the earth from our ancestors, but borrow it from our children” and Gandhi’s wise words, “Be the change you wish to see” resonated deeply for me. Two years later ClimateMama was born.

Blogging has turned out to be the ideal vehicle to shout about my hopes, my dreams for my children, my passions and to present the FACTS on climate change. Finding your raison d’être, isn’t that what we all strive for? Some of us are lucky to find it early in life, or later, or simply at all…after a successful career, a wild and single life or a secure and settled one…after dog, cat, husband, wife, or alone, together, travelling or close to home. Technology is advancing by the nanosecond, opening up the ability to reach like or opposite minded friends and frenemies, down the block and across the country. Blogging has opened a new world for me..what about you?

A dear grad school professor of mine, who has now passed away, was very passionate about climate change and really motivated me to do more. Unfortunately, I think what is truly needed is change at the international policy level. Every little bit of information and inspiration counts, and also helps build momentum and political will, but I really hope to live to see some major things happen on the world stage on this one. I’m sure you’ve addressed these concerns on your blog, and I look forward to poking around here in the future.
I agree Betsy..but I think we can do it on all fronts at the same time, local, regional, national and international!

Parenting and blogging have both changed my life. And parenting helps to fuel my blogging resolve. I have a new stake in the world now, and I feel a greater responsibility to make my voice heard.

I wish our more of our law makers were parents… until the day when our regulatory system has adult supervision, I’m very happy for blogs like yours.
Thanks Mary. I think we need to remind our law makers, as many of them are parents, and hold them accountable, to their children and future generations. Let them look their children in their eyes and at tell them why they are trying to gut the EPA, or take away the Clean Air act…hard to defend!
I find climate change to be such a huge issue that it’s paralyzing… thank you for helping parents like me figure out just what we can do to help.
