A lot is happening on climate change and the environment in the build up to the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day on April 22nd . In case it passed you by, March 22nd, was World Water Day, where attention was focused on an undervalued and increasingly threatened resource that many of us in the western world take for granted. On March 27th, the World celebrated Earth Hour, by “turning out the lights” for one hour to bring attention to climate change. More than a billion people around the world joined in, as did many “iconic monuments” including the Taj Mahal, the Empire State Building, the Sidney Opera House and the Las Vegas Strip. What did you do? Climate Mama joined The Earth Day Network and is promoting our advocacy and action with the EPA and Energy Star. Start planning now for Earth Day. Ask the kids in your life what they want to do to commemorate this special day? On April 22nd, go for a walk in the woods, have a picnic outside, plant some spring flowers, make a point of acknowledging the “specialness” of the day and the uniqueness of nature, wherever you live!
Don’t forget to meet our April Climate Mama, Lisa Borden from Toronto, Canada. Lisa is involved in a wide range of programs and activities to bring attention to sustainability and the environment. She is truly an inspiration! Our Video Peek of the Week is something you will want to share with Teens and ‘Tweens in your life. A music video prepared for the Copenhagen Climate Conference, it “lives beyond” and continues to inspire! In the News we look at a recent development by the Canadian and US governments that will “save you money” and help “save the environment.”
