Green Schools, Back to School, Cars, 350.org and Film Competitions: It’s a wRAP, August 20, 2010

The Sierra Club released their list of the “coolest (greenest) schools” this week. Is someone you know getting ready to go off to college this month? Share the list with them; they may be interested to find out how their school ranks! Also in the news this week, the start of the UN Zero Race, the “longest and greenest” round-the-world drive to promote emissions free transportation.

A reminder to all the new and experienced film makers in your life. The Explore/Hatch Short Film award will be given to a filmmaker who best tells the story of a remarkable individual’s actions in response to a devastating environmental event. Film submissions are due August 25th! In Climate Mama News we reflect on what “Back to School” means in an era of climate change and the quest for environmental sustainability. In our Video Peek of the Week, we bring you a short clip from 350.org, an organization with a mission  to: “inspire the world to rise to the challenge of the climate crisis—to create a new sense of urgency and of possibility for our planet.” Share the video, and information about the organization with the kids in your life. Individuals from around the world will unite on 10/10/10 to show that they are ready and willing to “get to work” on solving the climate crisis! Don’t forget to check out some new “finds” from our Green Guru, Lisa at GivingGifts.ca.

Finally, please help us bring more attention to the need to educate people and raise awareness about the devastation in the western US and Canada caused by the mountain pine beetle. Take a minute to sign our petition and send the petition to your friends. To learn more about the what is happening to forests all over the country, see Climate Mama News from last week!

You’ve got a great site filled with excellent information and amazing photos. Where do you get all these great shots? Especially love the one of the kid’s hands painted like the earth.

Thanks for all you are doing!

Thanks Stacie, many of our photos come to us from local photographers that we have connected with as well as from travel photos from “friends of ClimateMama!” We also use some great stock photos from Shutterstock!
